Immunization Schedules

The purpose of immunizations or vaccines is to prevent disease. It is always better to prevent a disease than to treat it. In addition to preventing disease in the people who receive vaccines, vaccines also protect those who come into contact with unvaccinated individuals. Vaccines help save lives. Vaccines are responsible for controlling many infectious diseases that were once common in the United States , including polio, measles, diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), rubella (German measles), mumps, tetanus and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib).

Avera Health Plans follows the immunization schedules recommended by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Talk to your doctor about vaccines. Your doctor will help you decide what vaccines are right for you and your children.

The CDC has schedules for children and adults.
