New Avera Cancer Institute At A Glance
The New Avera Cancer Institute will be the largest single building project in Sioux Falls' history - $90 million total with $60 million for building costs.
- Over 500 laborers will participate in the construction over a two year period with an estimated payroll near $40 million.
- The granite on and in the building will be a South Dakota product from Milbank.
- The limestone comes from nearby southwest Minnesota

- The building will include:
- 10,800 cubic yards of concrete
- 410 tons of steel rebar
- 1,800 tons of structural steel
- 38,000 square feet of brick and stone
- 54,000 square feet of windows
Building Highlights
- 5 story building with 217,000 square feet
- 57 infusion suites
- 3 radiation oncology vaults
- Clinic space for 25 providers including radiation oncology, medical oncology, bone marrow transplant, hematology, and GYN oncology
- An outpatient surgery center with 8 operating rooms
Floor by Floor
- The first floor will house public spaces including the library, atrium, music/performance area, bistro, meditation room and chapel, laboratory, radiology and imaging center, integrative medicine area and conference rooms.
- The second floor houses the pharmacy, clinic space and infusion area. Clinics incorporate a specialized design for staff efficiency and patient privacy.
- The third floor accommodates women's health, including the breast health center and clinic for gynecological oncology.
- The fourth floor houses an outpatient surgery center, with eight operating suites. This center will have a separate entrance with elevators from the southwest corner of the building.
- The fifth floor is reserved for future expansion.
